Who Are We?

Partners for Agricultural Innovation and Sustainability (PAIS) is a USDA/NIFA funded project in which the University of West Alabama, the Sumter County Soil & Water Conservation District, Coastal Alabama Community College, and East Mississippi Community College partnered to assist landowners in West Alabama and East Mississippi on a variety of issues affecting conservation and agriculture. Partners for Agricultural Innovation and Sustainability (PAIS 2.0) follows up on the success of Partners Against Invasive Species (now PAIS 1.0) in the areas of invasive species management, forest management, soil health consultation, and pollinator support.

Purpose

Provide area stakeholders with the knowledge, tools, and manpower to combat environmental and economic threats.

Goal

Provide needed outreach and assistance to stakeholders in the West Alabama/East Mississippi region.

Objectives

1. Develop a database of stakeholder awareness.

2. Create an outreach program to address information gaps.

3. Provide handson assistance in the form of trained student interns.

4. Enhance career opportunities for students interested in agriculture and conservation.

5. Continue the development of the West Alabama Center for Conservation and Agriculture (WACCA).
